Virtual Harm Reduction Therapy for Alcohol & Drug Use, Trauma, and Anxiety
Affirming & Inclusive Telehealth Therapy for Adults and Loved One’s Supporting an Adult Navigating Alcohol and/or Substance Use, Trauma, and Anxiety in California, Colorado & Wisconsin
You don’t have to be ready for a big change to start feeling better.
If you’re feeling weighed down by anxiety, trauma, guilt, or patterns of alcohol or substance use—your own or a loved one’s—you don’t need to face it alone. You don’t have to be “ready” or “fixed” to begin therapy.
My work is affirming, inclusive, and rooted in harm reduction. Together, we explore what’s alive beneath the surface — your emotions, your nervous system, your habits, the pressures you carry — without judgment or assumptions about what your path ‘should’ look like.
We build practical tools and tailored strategies that help you feel steadier, more regulated, and more grounded. Whether your goal is moderation, reducing use, abstinence, or simply understanding yourself more clearly — any of those pathways are valid.
Therapy here offers a chance to loosen shame, build clarity, and gain self-compassion as you reclaim agency over your life and choices around use, relationships, and emotional health.
All sessions are fully virtual, available to adults in California, Colorado, and Wisconsin.
If this feels like it could fit for you, I invite you to schedule a free consultation.
Change starts with understanding what you need—not forcing yourself into something you’re not ready for.
Hey y'all, I'm Madeleine.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing virtual therapy in California, Colorado, and Wisconsin, and the owner of Kinship Care and Therapy. I specialize in supporting adults and the loved ones of adults navigating alcohol or substance use, as well as anxiety, trauma, relationship patterns, and LGBTQIA+ experiences.
My work centers harm reduction, collaboration, and compassion. I’m not here to pressure you into a specific outcome—I’m here to help you understand what’s happening in your life, what your body and nervous system are holding, and what feels possible right now.
Whether you’re exploring moderation, trying to reduce use or harm, considering abstinence, or simply wanting to feel less overwhelmed, you don’t need clarity to begin—just curiosity.

As a harm reduction therapist, I support adults and the loved ones of adult who want to explore their relationship with alcohol or substances without judgment or pressure. Together, we make sense of patterns, identify what’s fueling them, and create goals that feel realistic—whether that’s moderation, reducing use, taking a break, or pursuing abstinence.
Trauma
As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), I offer trauma-informed, nervous-system-aware therapy that helps you feel safe, seen, and supported. We’ll work together to understand how past experiences shape your emotions, reactions, relationships, and coping strategies today.
Using grounding skills, regulation tools, and harm-reduction-aligned approaches, you’ll learn to navigate overwhelming emotions, heal from traumatic experiences, and move forward with more resilience, clarity, and self-compassion.
Anxiety
We’ll work together to understand your anxiety at its roots— how it shows up in your body, what triggers it, and what it’s trying to protect you from and/or communicate to you. Through personalized, evidence-based strategies, we’ll build tools that help you set boundaries, communicate clearly, regulate your nervous system, we’ll build tools that help you set boundaries, communicate clearly, regulate your nervous system, and move through daily stressors with more steadiness and confidence.

Modalities | Use In Therapy
The work we do together is collaborative, practical and grounded in approaches that support autonomy, nervous-system regulation, and meaningful change. These modalities help us explore what happening beneath the surface, reduce shame, and build tools that fit your real life.
Motivational Interviewing
MI is a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach designed to help you explore ambivalence and understand what you truly want. Instead of pushing a particular outcome, MI invites curiosity, builds confidence, and helps you identify meaningful next steps. It’s especially supportive when navigating substance use, anxiety, or any area where you feel stuck between options.
Harm Reduction Psychotherapy
Harm Reduction therapy supports you in making changes that feel realistic, compassionate, and aligned with your values. Together, we explore your relationship with substances, build practical strategies for managing urges, and reduce shame around patterns that feel hard to shift. Whether your goal is moderation, reducing use, abstinence, or simply gaining clarity, this approach meets you exactly where you are.
Somatic & Sensory-Informed Therapy
Somatic and sensory-informed work focuses on how your nervous system responds to stress, trauma, relationships, and urges. Through grounding tools, body awareness, and sensory strategies, you’ll learn to regulate overwhelm, reconnect with yourself, and feel more steady in daily life. This approach is gentle, effective, and deeply aligned with trauma recovery and harm reduction.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-Informed Care honors the impact of past experiences and prioritizes safety, consent, and emotional pacing. Our work centers compassion, nervous-system regulation, and choice—not pressure. This approach helps you understand your patterns, reduce shame, and move through difficult emotions with greater resilience and clarity.
Relational Therapy
Relational Therapy explores how your connections—past and present—shape your emotional world, coping patterns, and sense of self. Together, we examine boundaries, attachment dynamics, communication, and the ways relationships influence substance use, anxiety, or stress. This work supports healthier connections and a deeper understanding of your relational needs.
Loved Ones Support (CRAFT-informed)
CRAFT-Informed Therapy provides evidence-based tools for partners, parents, and loved ones supporting someone struggling with substance use. This approach strengthens communication, reduces conflict, promotes healthier boundaries, and supports your well-being in the process. You don’t have to navigate this alone—there are strategies that truly help.
